CARDET (Applicant co-ordinator)

CARDETCARDET’s mission is to inspire next generation education and to promote research, innovation and development through evidence-based practices, cutting-edge research, and empowered people. The main areas of our activity and expertise include e-learning, innovation, instructional design, teacher education, and evaluation. CARDET brings together an international team of experienced professionals with extensive global expertise in e-learning and teacher education and has collaborated with education institutions and Ministries of Education in Asia, Europe, and the USA. Members of the CARDET team successfully completed similar projects in more than twenty countries. CARDET has recently completed a large scale evaluation of teacher professional development programs, commissioned by the Cyprus Ministry of Education. CARDET has trained more than 1000 Cypriot teachers on ICT related topics, through workshops offered in Cyprus.

CARDET will lead the project in all aspects and coordinate all partners towards achieving the project objectives. It will be responsible for the communications and reporting with the local agency and quality assurance for all deliverables. Additionally, CARDET will be the lead organization for the State of the Art (Work package 2) reviewing the relevant literatures, identifying indicators and needs for ICT-related teachers training. Will also lead  the  development of  the framework and the  curriculum for  teachers' training (Work package 4), and the development of instructional material and handbooks (Work package 5). Furthermore, CARDET as the coordinator, will contribute to all the other workpackages in close cooperation with the leading organization of each work package and ensure that the proposed actions will be met.

 

The Open University, UK

OpenUKThe Open University is the world's leading lifelong learning university. Already a world leader in blended learning and with extensive e-learning expertise the university is committed to extending its e-learning provision of learning materials. The University is home to the Institute for Educational Technology and the Knowledge Media Institute, world-class R&D centres at the leading edge of educational technology, e-learning, learning and new media technologies.The OpenLearn project is making distance learning materials freely available online. Research and evaluation is an integral part of the enterprise and is investigating how Open Educational can be effective and how they can contribute to the further development of e-learning.

The Open University's role in the project is the application of the knowledge, tools and expertise gained through the Open University Learning Design Initiative (http://ouldi.open.ac.uk) and alignment with the newly funded network for Open Educational Resources – Olnet (http://olnet.org). Developed tools, content, and instructional materials will be transferred from the following projects led by the Open University UK: CompendiumLD – a tool that aids teachers in visually designing learning activities; and Cloudworks - a social networking site for sharing, finding, and discussing learning and teaching ideas and experience.

 

University of Piraeus Research Center

UniPIThe University of Piraeus Research Center (UPRC) serves the needs of primary & secondary education, adult learning organizations as well as the enterprises and organizations of the private and public sector on subjects concerning designing, programming and effective control of e-learning. The primary objective of this Department (University of Piraeus has more than 200 staff members, 10.000 undergraduate students and 500 postgraduate students), is to provide students with the knowledge and practical experience in various fields of net-centric computing, including  the design and delivery of e-learning systems.  The team has a lot of experience in designing collaborative learning environments for schools. They will lead the development of the online platform and tools, and the delivery of trainings and workshops in Greece.

The University of Piraeus will contribute to all work packages and lead the development of the technology tools. Its CosyLLab (cosy.ted.unipi.gr) is a leading institution in interactive technologies. More specifically, UNIPI will contribute to the state of the art report, develop material in greek for the teacher trainings, and develop digital content for the online portal. Its major responsibility will be to leverage the long expertise it has in developing interactive applications, and it will work closely with the Open University of the UK team to transfer innovation in the tools to be used by Cypriot and Greek teachers. It will develop the online portal and the necessary technology tools for allowing teachers to visualize their designs and share them in an online community.

 

Cyprus Pedagogical Institute

The Pedagogical Institute focuses on the development of all levels of education and its main activities centre on in-service training of teachers, educational research, educational documentation and educational technology. The in-service training offers continuous professional development programs for teachers at all levels of education. The educational research and evaluation focuses on undertaking small-scale and large-scale research projects and on the organization and conducting of seminars concerning the methodology of educational research and evaluation. The department of educational technology is active in: a) in-service training for teachers in the use of Information and Communication Technologies, b) technological support for the running programs of the Pedagogical Institute, c) production and dissemination of multimedia material, d) promotion of projects in using ICT in education. Since May 2002 the unified Curriculum Development Unit was officially integrated with the PI.

The Pedagogical Institute's role will be to transfer knowledge about teachers training on the use of ICT in education and help in the development of training material. In this way we will develop instruments for the evaluation of the modules, run a pilot test, and offer trainings to at least 100 Cypriot teachers, by leading WP7. The Cyprus Pedagogical Institute will contribute to all work packages a. However, the main role of the Institute will be to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project by adopting the material developed and disseminate the project findings to all Cyprus schools and teachers.

 

International Council for Educational Media

ICEM is a non-profit, non-governmental organization which has been active in the field of educational technology since 1950, operating on a global basis. It maintains operational relations with UNESCO. ICEM’s primary goal is to cooperate in the development and application of educational technology with other organizations involved in the production of educational materials and teacher training. It also provides a channel for the international exchange and evaluation of information, in the field of educational media as it applies to pre-school, primary and secondary education, vocational,commercial training, teacher training, continuing and distance education. The organisation’s official publication, Educational Media International, which is published by Taylor & Francis, is a renowned quarterly journal and contributions are drawn from academics, educators and media professionals whose ideas and experiences come from a variety of countries and contexts.

ICEM is to play a key role is this project as its global structure and 50 years of experience can provide an extensive range of expertise, resources and professional advice on almost every aspect of ICT and its current and future developments, not only in Europe but also on a global scale. ICEM comprises of members from both the instructional and technical side the of educational media sector. This important combination of educators, producers and distributors  alike puts ICEM in the unique position of being able to provide both theoretical and practical support for various educational media projects, be-it in the form of trainings, conferences, research, networking etc.. ICEM will contribute to all work packages and lead the dissemination of the project findings within the EU. Since several ICEM members are also representatives of the education ministries in Europe, the organisation can use its network to reinforce the pan-European perspectives of the project.

In addition, as the only SME involved in the project, it will disseminate the findings of the project to the SME sector and particularly to trainers, training agencies focusing on lifelong learning.
